Ninos Box aims to become a third place for diverse ethnic groups of Highland Park community, coming together to experience the authentic essence of the neighborhood, giving way to Eat, Play and Love, transcending cultural divides and creating new memories together, addressing the issues of gentrification.

As a blank canvas for community engagement and programming, Common ground drew it’s inspiration from the form of a bread box, a core brand identity of Ninos box.The colorful boxes are created by weaving colorful ropes inspired by traditional style of Mexican Artisans, installed throughout the park in the neighborhood Highland park. Common Ground becomes a destination for social interaction, creation, performances, art-making activities and special events co-organized by Ninos Box and local partner institutions.

8 cubes consist of various social interactions and activities. 25 boxes are empty frames for on-site public art installation which will be developed by diverse creative community of neighborhood, over a period of a month’s time.

The box and its contents are mixed into one single spatial entity, blurring the architecture with its program through a particular spatial experience. This will be an accumulative process that evolves and grows over time, making some new memories and bringing the community together.
