Context -
Designing a digital platform for students and visitors of UBC to create more interactive and engaging environment to learn some fun facts about UBC, Point Grey campus.
Problem -
UBC, Vancouver campus is huge and full of amazing history and facts which often go unnoticed by students given their busy schedule with classes, assignments and long distances across campus. Often students and staff doesn't get the opportunity to know well their own campus even after spending many years at UBC.
Solution -
We proposed a project designed to enrich the experience of UBC students, employees, and visitors to the Point Grey campus. It would let them discover hidden gems of the University, and make their stay more interactive and engaging. They could just open the interactive map and explore UBC’s history, interesting facts, and notable people. Also there will be a feature where they can add their own point and share their story or any facts they know about. This gives them the opportunity to mark their own presence on these lands by contributing to our collective knowledge, adding their pins and telling us about its significance.
Research -
We used various quantitative and qualitative methods to conduct user research like gathering data, user interviews, surveys etc.
Analysis of Research / Insights -
We gathered data from various sources and analyzed it to find the patterns and insights to be able to find the solution.
Ideating / Solutions -
For first two iterations we used the Google Map to add points. When we tested it didn’t work for people using it from far distances. Also it didn't have many customization options which we were looking for on our platform.
